M: As a matter of fact, I have.

M: Do you hear our manager is going to have a new factory built?
W: I simply don’t know. Sorry. I have to see a new factory.
Text 4
M: I’ll probably see John at basketball practice this afternoon.
W: Super! I forgot to return his dictionary. Would you please give it to him?
Text 5
W: How do you like Scottish music?
M: It’s nothing special. How about you?
W: Well, It’s interesting.
Text 6
M: May I have one cheese sandwich and two ham rolls, please?
W: That’s one ham sandwich…
M: No, one cheese sandwich.
W: Sorry, that’s one cheese sandwich.
M: No, two ham rolls.
W: Right… You did want two cheese sandwiches, didn’t you?
M: No, I didn’t. Just one.
W: Oh, I am sorry. I didn’t quite catch you.
Text 7
M: Lovely day, isn’t it?
W: Mmm, yes, it’s really warm. And it’s supposed to get warmer.
M: Yes, that’s true. You know, though, I’m always a little sorry to see winter go.
W: Really?
M: Well, I love skating. In fact, I used to teach skating for living.
W: Oh? That sounds interesting. But what do you do now?
M: I work at Bank of America. How about you?
W: I’m with the radio station.
M: Here?
W: No, I’m from Chicago. I’m just visiting here for the wedding.

W: Where do you come from, Chen?

W: I have lived in Montreal most of my life, but I am originally from Calgary.

W: I mean where I was born.
M: I see.
W: My parents moved here when I was a child, and I have been here ever since.
W: How far is Calgary from here, Betty?
W: Roughly 3,580 km. It takes about five hours by plane.
M: Canada is very large, even larger than China.
W: But our population is much smaller than yours.
W: Canada is also a little colder.

M: I believe the winters in Harbin are as cold as the winters in Montreal. Beijing is a little warmer, not as cold as Harbin, but much colder than Guangzhou in the south.

M: That’s right. Well, I got a letter from him this morning and he’s invited me to spend a holiday with his family this year. They have got a big house on a river, and they’ve got a boat. You know how crazy I am about boats.
W: Mike, that’s great. What a wonderful chance for you!
M: Yes, but it’s not that simple.
W: What’s the problem?
M: It’s Celia. You see, we’ve both been saving like mad to go on a trip together this year.
W: Ah, I see. You don’t want to disappoint her, of course.
M: That’s right. She'd be so upset. She's been doing all sorts of jobs in her free time. She is really wanting this holiday. It seems so unfair.
W: Look, Mike. First, you must tell Celia about the invitation. She’ll understand your problem. But why don’t you tell Miguel about the plan you had already made with Celia? He might even suggest a good way to settle the problem.
Text 10
Good morning, and welcome to England. We hope that your visit here will be pleasant one. Today, I would like to draw your attention to a few of our laws. The first one is about drinking. So you may not buy alcohol in this country if you are under 18 years of age, nor may your friends buy it for you. Secondly, smoking. It is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you are under 16 years of age. Thirdly, crossing the road. Be careful. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country. Use the crossings for walking and don’t take any chances when crossing the road. My last point is about litter. It is against the law to throw away waste material in a public place. When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a litter bin. I'd like to finish by saying that if you require any sort of help; you should get in touch with your local police station, who will be pleased to help you. Now, are there any questions?
